The Young Junior Rugby Club will relaunch their season this Friday, the 19th of June, after restrictions on community sport began to ease.
Training will resume from this Friday and will take place every Friday night from 5pm to 6pm at Cranfield Oval. The competition is set to return on the 26th of July, 2020. The draw and format are to be advised closer to the time.
Returning and new players are encouraged to attend. Boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 17 are welcome to join, with tackle and touch rugby
options available.
“It’s fantastic to get the kids back playing sport again. We’ve got over 70 girls looking to play touch and about 90 boys looking to play tackle. The kids are raring to go, they’re pretty keen to get amongst it,” said Rick Baldwin, Girls Rugby Coordinator.
The Junior Yabbies had their 2020 season postponed when the Federal Government brought in restrictions on community sport to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
“We’re just following on from last year where every girl’s side made the grand final, which was four different age groups. We were the strongest girl’s rugby sevens club in the southern inland. The boys did exceptionally well as well, with two sides in the grand final,” said Rick.

The Club is also looking at playing the first sevens tackle for girls in the southern inland, for the under 13s, under 15s and under 17s. “If any girls are interested, get in touch with the club,” said Rick.
Guidelines will be followed to ensure all COVID-19 safety measures are met. All players, coaches and volunteers must be registered before they attend training.
