When a Sydney choir of 60 visits the region for a workshop with the Hilltops Choir, the result is a concert that lifts the spirits of all who are present.
Many of the Sydney choir had never visited this region before and appreciated the connection that has been forged between their city and our country community choirs. We thank all involved for their contribution and especially the Macquarie Singers for giving such a generous donation to the suicide prevention network.
On Sunday evening I attended a dinner hosted by the board of Regional Development Australia, Southern Inland (RDASI). The role of the RDASI is to achieve development and growth in the member local government areas.
The point was made to me by one of the board members that to attract new business, residents & visitors it's important to show that Hilltops has a vibrant cultural base which is valued and nurtured. Music and song, literature and the arts add to the depth and joy of life in our beautiful Hilltops region – which has been aglow this autumn.
With the four little angels (scooters in tow), Roles Inc has explored over the past weeks many of the playgrounds and paths in Boorowa, Harden, Young and surrounding villages. We have played and had fun.
Most of us realise the importance of play for childhood development but it is just as important for adults. Many of us focus so heavily on work and family commitments that we never seem to have time for pure fun.
Play is fun and is an emotional and mental health necessity which can help ward off stress and depression. Even in the most difficult of times, taking time away from one’s troubles to play or laugh can improve mood and outlook.
Let us all stimulate the mind, boost creativity and lower stress by connecting with the opportunities to play that Hilltops has to offer. Nothing can beat the stress-busting, mood- boosting power of play.
