Summer drenching has been the foundation of effective worm control now for many years. This is a very effective way to reduce worm number and this will lead to improved worm control in the following autumn and winter. There can be a double-edged sword with summer drenching, the potential to accelerate resistance. Since summer drenching can help accelerate resistance a highly effective, short acting drench should be used.
The timing of your first summer drench generally coincides with “haying off” of pasture and/or weaning of spring lambs. It is always important to remember to use worm tests to aid with drenching decisions. We have worm test kits available for your use.
