Work on safety improvements to the Demondrille Creek Bridge started on Monday. The bridge, also known as William Bradford Bridge, is located 5.5 kilometres west of Harden on Burley Griffin Way. Safety improvements include replacing damaged safety barriers and kerb, concrete patching and joint repairs.

Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said, “The maintenance project will deliver improved safety and efficiency for all road users, and will extend the life of the bridge, after a routine inspection uncovered some damage.” “Work includes replacing damaged safety barriers and kerb on both sides of the bridge, concrete patching and joint repairs to help ensure the bridge remains safe and serviceable for all road users.”

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said she welcomed these safety works. “I want to acknowledge the hard work of community members including Di Peisley and the Hilltops Freight Industry Group who have passionately advocated for change at this bridge,” Ms Cooke said.

“While I am pleased this preliminary safety work is being done, I am committed to fighting for a replacement bridge at this site. Many people in the community have raised their concerns about this bridge, and it is vital we continue to work to improve road safety.”

Work on the bridge will be carried out between 7am and 5pm Monday to Friday and is expected to be completed in mid-October.

There will be changed traffic conditions for the duration of the work, including traffic control, a single lane closure and a reduced speed limit.
