On Sunday the Grade 3 Pennant side had a convincing win against Cootamundra’s Grade 4 side. The overall score was 72 shots to 35 with Young taking all 10 points.

In the individual games Peter Watts defeated Graeme Worboys 23–13, Damien Miller defeated Bill Manwaring 27–12 and David Quigley defeated Graham Davidson 22–10. At Young the Grade 4 side lost to Harden on all three rinks. Cliff Traynor lost to John Harriott 14–21, Geoff DeBritt lost to Brian Madden 8–33 and George Somerville lost to Matt Peisley 15–20.

The Grade 5 side’s game was not played due to continued rain at Boorowa. There were five games of Club Singles played on Saturday afternoon. Damien Miller led Colin Powell 18–8 after 13 ends and despite Col closing the gap to 16–23 Damien went on to win 31–17.

Brian Christie led for the entire game against Cliff Traynor even though Cliff cut the margin back at times Brian maintained his advantage to win 31–24. In the game between George Somerville and Glen Benson the scores were level at 17–all, 18–all and 21–all before George dominated the scoring on the final ends to win 31–23.

Vic Brown was completely in control of his game against Terry Mulligan and the final score was 31–9 in Vic’s favour.

The game between Jono Watson and Ian Schofield featured high quality play. Jono held the lead for the first 28 ends but never by a big margin. Ian took the lead 26–24 on the 29th end and over the next 9 ends he scored 5 shots to Jono’s 4 shots to win 31–28.

Thanks to the markers and umpire for their services on the afternoon.

There were just 8 players for Jackpot bowls on Saturday afternoon. Both games of pairs were evenly contested with Andrew Hutchison and Albert Carter winning by 7 shots and Terry Holmes and David Quigley winning by 6 shots.

The only play during the week was for the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge on Wednesday night.

The winners for the night were Envision with the very good score of 16 points. Players arrived for bowls on Thursday afternoon and everything was ready to go before the rain set in.

The heavy downpour that started just after 1 o’clock saw water covering the greens on two occasions. Not only was play abandoned for the afternoon but there was no play on Thursday night.

There will be further games in the Club Singles this week with five games set down to be played on or before Saturday afternoon.

The scheduled games are: Geoff Holt to play George Somerville, Colin Parker to play Damien Miller.

Michael Webb to play Joe Bargwanna, Ian Gailey to play John Cooper and Tom Preston to play Peter Watts. The markers for these games will be contacted individually.

The Pennant games for Sunday are that Yong’s Grade 4 side will host Young’s Grade 3 side and Young’s Grade 5 side will travel to Harden.

Players should note that entry forms for the various tournaments to be held in May as part of the Club’s Centenary Celebrations are on the notice board. Entry details for the South Western District Singles Championship events are also on the notice board.
