The club hosted the opening rounds in the South Western District Mixed Pairs Championships on Saturday.
The competition involves sectional play and there are four sections involving 13 teams. Two rounds for each section were completed on Saturday.
In the morning games Sue and Lance Gault defeated Col and Meagan Parker in Section 1, John and Kate Cooper played a draw with Rosemary and Ray Walter in Section 2, Margo Parker and Damien Miller defeat Maureen Westbury and Charlie Sorgsepp in Section 3.
There were two games in Section 4 with Sheila and Cliff Traynor defeating Karen McMinn and Charlie Willis and Elsie and Geoff Hines defeating Jenny and Geoff Holt.
The results for the afternoon games were that Kathryn and Martin Betcher defeated Col and Meagan Parker in Section 1, John and Kate Cooper defeated Judy and Ken McAlister in Section 2, Margaret and Ian Gailey defeated Maureen Westbury and Charlie Sorgsepp in Section 3 and Elsie and Geoff Hines defeated Karen McMinn and Charlie Willis and Sheila and Cliff Traynor defeated Jenny and Geoff Holt in Section 4.
The remaining sectional games will be played on Saturday morning with the semi–finals to be played on Saturday afternoon.
Play on Thursday afternoon saw 16 players involved with the wind making conditions fairly awkward and some players adapting better than others.
Milan Brankovic and Colin Powell won the vouchers with a margin of 22 shots and finished just in front of Brian Christie and Harold Anderson who won their game by 21 shots.
Other winners were Aldo Malvicino and Tom Preston with a 7 shot margin and Andrew Hutchison and Tony Ruhl with a 3 shot margin.
Conditions for play on Saturday afternoon were quite pleasant and 22 players took part.
The vouchers for the afternoon went to Andrew Hutchison and Les Fanning with a margin of 17 shots. Just behind them were Ian Apps and David Quigley with a margin of 16 shots.
Darryle Miller and Denis Rosen won their game by 11 shots, Jeff Jacquier and Vic Brown won their game by 8 shots and in the game of triples Wally Chater, Alan Gall and Ian Schofield had a 7 shot margin.
Well done to the team of Phillip Hewson, Geoff DeBritt, Vic Brown and Ian Schofield who represented the club at Bribbaree’s President’s Day on Sunday and were the overall winners for the day.
Members are reminded that the Centenary Dinner will be held on Saturday 22nd May and they can purchase tickets at the club.
