The second round of Pennants saw mixed results for the Club’s sides. The Grade 3 side lost to Harden 51–69.
The individual scores (skips names only) were — Peter Watts lost to Brian Madden 16–22, Damien Miller lost to Matt Peisley 20–23 and David Quigley lost to John Harriott 15–24.
Young’s Grade 4 side defeated Cootamundra Country Club despite losing two of the three rinks.
Cliff Traynor lost to Graham Davidson 19–23, George Somerville lost to Ron Johnson 20–23 and Geoff DeBritt defeated Kevin Breasley 28–8.
At Quandialla, Young lost 50–55 despite winning two games. Vic Brown defeated John Preistley 21–11, Bob Ruhl defeated Bevan McAlister 22–19 and Les Fanning lost to Dylan McAlister 7–25.
The District Pairs Championships were completed on Saturday with games at Young and Boorowa Ex–Services Club.
The semi–finals of the Open Pairs saw John Harriott and Shane Foote up against Tom Glover and Matt Peisley and Harold Anderson and Ian Schofield playing Damien Miller and David Quigley.
John and Shane won the first 5 ends of their game to lead 11–0 and they maintained a solid lead throughout to win 23–13.
Harold and Ian won 8 of their first 10 ends to lead 13–5 and led 18–8 after 16 ends. Four consecutive ends to Damien and David saw them trailing 17–18 going into the final end. Harold and Ian scored 2 shots on the final end to win 20–17.
In the final, Harold and Ian led 16–15 after 13 ends, but some very consistent play by John and Shane from that point saw them record a 36–20 win.
The final of the Senior Pairs was between John Cooper and Peter Watts and Geoff Holt and Graeme Edgerton. The scores in this game were close throughout — 5 all after 6 ends, 10 all after 10 ends and 19 all after the standard 21 ends. Geoff and Graeme scored 1 shot on the extra end to win 20–19.
At Boorowa Ex–Services Club, the final of the President’s Reserve Pairs saw David Bromham and Bill Luxford opposed to Henry Wilson and Jason Jones.
The early ends saw close scores but 5 shots to Henry and Jason on the 10th end gave them a good break and despite David and Bill cutting the difference back to 2 shots, Henry and Jason went on to win 23–17.
Congratulations to the three winning teams who will contest the Zone 8 finals at Young in June.
Once again, the district games and Sunday’s Pennants reduced player numbers for Saturday’s Jackpot bowls down to just 10 players.
The triples team of Andrew Hutchison, Tony Ruhl and Vic Brown had a margin of 20 shots and Alan Gall and Colin Powell won their game by 7 shots.
A group of adults and children also enjoyed some time on the green on Saturday afternoon.
Play during the week saw 20 players involved on Thursday afternoon.
The vouchers went to Ned Kelly and Ian Schofield with a margin of 13 shots.
Other winners were Brian Christie and Les Fanning whose margin was 12 shots and they won the $200 jackpot. Brian also had a resting toucher in the ditch.
Andrew Hutchison and Terry Holmes won their game by 6 shots as did Milan Brankovic and Tom Preston while Michael Webb and Cliff Traynor won by 3 shots.
On Wednesday night in the Guy Pickering Charity Challenge, TGs were the winners with a score of 16 points.
The winners for the Thursday night division were FATBOTS with 15 points.
The first games in the Club Singles are scheduled to be played on Saturday afternoon.
The five games, with markers names in brackets, are: G Benson v G Somerville (J Cooper), C Powell v D Miller (I Gailey), J Watson v I Schofield (H Anderson), T Mulligan v V Brown (T Preston) and B Christie v C Traynor (C Parker).
This Sunday, the Pennant draw has Grade 3 playing Cootamundra Country Club at Cootamundra, Grade 4 playing Harden at Young and Grade 5 playing Boorowa Recreation at Boorowa.
