Painting of the Murrumburrah Mills begins this week after the project was delayed last year due to COVID-19 restrictions
Silo artist Heesco will spend 4 to 6 weeks painting the Mills in the colourful design voted the most popular in the public vote last year.
Harden Regional Development Corporation (HRDC) Chairman Richard Fleming said that the project will generate a buzz for the town after a tumultuous 2020 and create an additional tourism attraction for the region. “I think it’s exactly what this community needs. Harden Murrumburrah is currently seeing an upturn in the economy with increased drive tourism and localised spending. These factors, in addition to several large projects such as the Murrimboola Creek redevelopment set to begin within the first quarter should see this positive upturn continue throughout the year.”
Fire and Rescue Harden and local Rural Fire Service (RFS) units washed
down the Mills on Sunday as a training exercise, providing Heesco with a clean
site to start painting the design.
Residents will be able to watch the progress of the design as painting continues
over the coming weeks, dependant on the weather.
