The ongoing COVID-19 restrictions have had a major impact on the National Cherry Festival, however the 2021 Cherry Queen Competition entrants are continuing to fundraise in these difficult times.
Live events and gatherings have been a successful way for past entrants to gather the community and raise funds for their chosen charity or non-profit organisation.
With periods of lockdown, stay at home orders and restrictions, entrants are coming up with different ways to raise funds.
Each entrant has a campaign page on Facebook with details of their current fundraising activities and how you can show your support:
Ashlenn (search Ashlenn Bannister - Cherry Queen Entrant 2021 on Facebook) is raising funds for MND (Motor Neurone Disease) research.
Trudi (search Cherry Queen Entrant 2021 - Trudi Summerfield on Facebook) is raising funds for the Young PCYC.
Rachael (search Cherry Queen Entrant 2021: Rachael Smyth) is raising funds for the Young Crisis Accommodation Centre.
Major sponsors and strong supporters of the annual National Cherry Festival and the Cherry King and Queen competition, Valley Fresh Cherries and Stonefruit have provided a cash contribution to each of the entrants to assist them in achieving their fundraising goals.
This generous support is greatly appreciated by the entrants, the organizing committee and will be a wonderful bonus for the nominated charities of each entrant.
The committee would like to extend their appreciation for the ongoing support from the NSW Cherry Growers Association. The association in previous years has facilitated the entrants to attend the annual cherry auction at the Sydney Markets, which is a wonderful experience for all involved.
Unfortunately, the auction is unlikely to take place due to COVID-19, but the Association has generously offered their continued support providing a contribution to each of the contestants.
It is hoped that some fun activities will take place in early December to mark the Cherry Festival and announce the winners of the Cherry King and Queen competition.
To find out more about the fundraising activities, check out the entrants Facebook pages and support them where you can.
