Murrumburrah Harden Rotary members were recently treated to a car rally presentation.

Ken McKay entertained the members with stories of his experience participating in the Repco Reliability Retrial in August 2019. The Repco Reliability Retrial is the 40th anniversary retrial and relay of the original 1979 Repco Reliability Trial.

44 cars and about 200 drivers took part in the retrial, which travelled around Australia over 28 days. The retrial began in Melbourne, with the first week’s leg being Melbourne to Perth. Week two saw the rally head from Perth to Darwin. The rally headed across the top of Australia in the third week, travelling from Darwin to Cairns. The final leg saw the drivers head down the east side of Australia, heading from Cairns to end the rally in Melbourne, where it began.

There were 11 members in Ken’s group, all of which race motor cars. They had 3 cars (each 30 years old plus), a 1979 Kingswood, a 1980 Volvo and a 1981 Mercedes with a Hino truck as backup with spare parts and supplies.

It was a labour of love for Ken and thanks go to him for his entertaining presentation.
