People who would like to be more active, get back in to exercise and connect with like minded people are invited to attend Gentle Exercise and Tai Chi classes online with trained volunteer leaders.

Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) have been running face to face classes in most communities for over 15 years. Last year, classes ceased during COVID-19 restrictions and online classes were trialled.

“The trial was such a success that even though face to face classes are up and running again, we will continue with the online classes” said Carly Barnes Active Ageing Health Promotion Officer.

“We found people were attending multiple sessions per week as the classes were easy to access. There was no need to drive into town and no need to leave home. We even had one lady connect in from her farm shed,” Ms Barnes added.

MLHD Falls Prevention Coordinator Nazmul Ahasan said, “We know the importance of regular physical activity to maintain good health and this is a great chance for community members to take part in a low cost and fun program offered from the comfort of home.”

Classes run during school terms at various times during the week, livestreamed via zoom. To register please visit https://www.mlhd.health.nsw.gov.au/healthy-living/physical-activity/active-ageing

Classes are free.
