Recently, the Jugiong Advancement Group (JAG) undertook a mass planting of over 80 deciduous trees in Jugiong’s recreation grounds.
The planting took place over two weeks, on Saturday the 30th of May and Friday the 5th of June. A community BBQ was held after the Saturday’s mass planting to celebrate the efforts of the planters.
“These trees will certainly enhance the beauty of the recreation ground, will look magnificent in years to come and leave a legacy for the future of the Jugiong park surrounds. The work of all involved should be applauded for the vision they have seen for the future,” said Joy Coggan, member of JAG.
The trees included London Planes, Manchurian Pears, Snow Pears, Liquid Ambers and Claret Ashes and will provide a mass of colour in autumn and much needed shade and shelter for campers during spring and summer. The trees were supplied by local nursery Yass River Trees.
“A huge thanks to Brian Allen and Paul Leseberg, the driving forces behind this project. Together Brian and Paul devised the plan in consultation with members of the community and organised the planting and mulching of the trees over two weekends. They were well supported on both weekends by Will Chilton with his machinery and members of the community, who braved the cold and worked together to make a big job look easy. It certainly was a fun community event,” said Joy.
