There’s plenty to do this weekend whether you’re looking to entertain kids home from school, put your feet up or get out.
A documentary on the life of Archibald Prize winner Keith Looby, called LOOBY, is screening for free at Southern Cross Cinema on Saturday from 11am. The Australian artist painted several non-conformists and rose his voice to speak on social issues.
His art won major prizes at home and abroad, with his art career spanning over seven decades. It’s featured in major Australian gallery collections and internationally, including MOMA in New York.
The film will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s producer and the artist.
This event is co-hosted by Hilltops Council Library and Hilltops Arts Incorporated.
A Hilltops Council Library team member said this film should explain where his opinions and creation stems from.
“Looby won the Archibald Prize in 1984 with a portrait of the comedian and actor, Max Gillies. Many would say that this was the most controversial win in the history of the Archibald Prize.”
“Looby’s art depicts stories of what was happening around him during certain times of his career from a political, personal and social context, so you can expect to gain a stronger understanding of this during the screening of Looby on Saturday.”
Hilltops Youth Action Group are hosting Bubble Soccer and Archery War in Harden on Monday from 11am to 3pm at Roberts Park.
Young teens to 25 years olds are welcome to a day of fun and lots of laughs.
It’s a free event, but registration via Eventbrite is necessary.
A show and shine is on Saturday and Sunday in Wombat from 10am both days at Wagenbah Oval. A wide variety of interstate and statewide street machines on display, along with market stalls, are planned for the two days.
