The NRMA has opened an electric vehicle fast charging station at Jugiong.
The fast charger lets most EV motorists fully charge their cars in about 30 minutes, compared to standard EV chargers which take between 3 and 6 hours. A traditional power outlet can take more than 12 hours.
The Jugiong station is centrally located on Riverside Drive and is the 23rd of NRMA’s electric vehicle fast charging stations across the state.
Mayor Brian Ingram said he was happy that Jugiong would now be put on the map for EV motorists. “Council is pleased to partner with the NRMA to deliver infrastructure that will help drive more visitors to our region,” said Mr Ingram.
A station was also opened at Holbrook, centrally located near the Greater Hume Visitor Information Centre.
NRMA Executive General Manager Motoring Nell Payne said the Holbrook and Jugiong chargers would help drive the next generation of motoring tourists to the region, improving mobility and contributing to the local tourism economies.
“At the NRMA we know one of the key reasons motorists in Australia have been hesitant to purchase electric vehicles is because they’re worried about ‘range anxiety’,” Ms Payne said.
“That’s why we’re building this extensive network of chargers in towns like Holbrook and Jugiong to safeguard against that happening and make sure regional areas don’t get left behind because we know regional communities thrive when regional tourism thrives. Our aim is that 95 per cent of member journeys are within 150 kilometres of one of our charging stations,” Ms Payne said.
