Hilltops Youth Action Group (HYAG) are hosting a virtual disco this weekend as a safe, social event after cancellations of all the upcoming events they had planned due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Hilltops Council spokesperson Sarah Karaitiana said the group are anticipating a fun evening.
“We know now more than ever that our youth are beginning to feel isolated. Music is something that brings so much happiness and joy to people and a virtual music festival is a fun way for our youth to connect,” Ms Karaitiana said.
“Hilltops Youth Action Group members submitted their favourite five songs so the DJ's get an idea on what music our youth would like to hear on the night. The DJ’s hope to come up with a playlist that everyone will love.”
The disco is on this Saturday from 5pm to 9pm with three Melbourne DJs performing via Microsoft Teams. People can register for the youth event via Eventbrite. There’s a link on the HYAG facebook page.
“The event was planned due to the lockdown as a way for our youth to remain engaged,” Sarah said.
With it being virtual the event will go ahead if lockdown is extended. If it proves popular, Hilltops Council will look at holding it regularly should the current lockdown continue.
