Hilltops locals honoured in Queen’s Birthday List

Two Hilltops residents have been named on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2020 for service to their communities.

Nancy McGregor from Young was named on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2020 as a recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia.

Nancy received the award for ‘service to the community of Young’.

Nancy has been a part of many organisations, contributing to a range of clubs and committees through out her time in Young. She contributed to the start of the Brock Street Preschool, being President from 1969-1971 and was a founding member of the Young Netball Association in the early 1970s. She has held the positions of Ground Secretary and Umpires Convenor and is now a life member.

Nancy has been involved with the Girl Guides Association for 50 years. She has held the positions of Treasurer and President and is now a lifetime Patron. She contributed to the building of the Girl Guide Hall in Miro Street, which opened in 1979.

She held various positions in the Young Ladies Golf Club from 1989 to 2012, being Treasurer, President and later, Secretary.

She was also part of the Southern Slopes Area Health Council between 1994 and 2001, holding positions of President and Secretary and had a big part to play in the building of the new Young Hospital. The Hospital opened in 2005 and she continues to be a part of the Young Hospital Auxiliary to this day.

Nancy also contributed to various committees and clubs during her children’s schooling years, often contributing to P & C’s, canteens and the Young Swimming Club. Between 1969 and 1979, she was President of the Mother’s Club at Young Public School.

She was part of the organizing committee for the Sacred Heart and Mercy Care Hospitals reunions in 1997, 2006 and 2019.

More recently, she is the Publicity Officer of the Young Croquet Club. “It was a wonderful honour to receive the Order of Australia Medal. I have really enjoyed contributing and supporting voluntarily to the town of Young by being involved in many groups and organisations over many years, meeting many lifetime friends along the way,” said Nancy.

Rose Adler from Harden Murrumburrah was named on the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2020 as a recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia.

Rose received the award for ‘service to the community of Murrumburrah-Harden.’ Rose has been a member and held positions in various organisations through out Harden Murrumburrah over her time in the region.

Rose has been a member and the Treasurer of the Murrumburrah Harden Hospital Auxiliary for the last 36 years. She has also been a member and the Treasurer of the church for the last 36 years. She is also a church warden and works in the Anglican Care Op Shop in Murrumburrah.

Rose has been a member of the Harden Evening VIEW Club (VIEW stands for Voice, Interests and Education of Women) for 36 years and is the current Treasurer.

She has been a member of the Country Women’s Association of New South Wales (CWA) for 29 years and has held the positions of Secretary and Treasurer. She also held the position of Vice President for the South West Group of the CWA.

Rose has also been a volunteer with Harden CanAssist and Harden Meals on Wheels. When asked how she felt about receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia, Rose said, “I was very, very honoured. It just took my breath away really.”

“I didn’t do it for achievements, I did it because I liked it. I like doing what I do.”
