The Commercial Cattle Competition of the Boorowa Show was held on the 8th February 2019.
Due to the season, drought followed by severe storm damage, entry numbers were down and calves were early weaned by some entrants which was cause for discussion about the pros and cons of early weaning. There were 5 entrants.
Considering all that entrants had to contend with the cattle were presented in good condition due to appropriate management decisions.
Breeds represented were Angus, Red Angus, Herefords and Angus/Hereford cross.
The judge for the day was Harry White from Coffin Creek Angus Stud at Mudgee.
Unfortunately, the other judge Doug Tozer had to withdraw due to ill health and he is wished a speedy recovery.
Thanks to Harry White for being the judge and for giving insight into his decisions.
The results were:
Pen of heifers
1st John & Murray Dymock - Red Angus
2nd Mick & Jane Corkhill - Hereford
3rd Peter & Amber Kelly - Angus
Cows & Calves
1st David & Louise Crawford - Angus
2nd Mick & Jane Corkhill - Hereford
3rd Peter & Amber Kelly - Angus
Encouragement Award

The judge commended the Crawfords for taking the early weaning decision which meant that the cows would be in reasonable condition going into winter and be able to calve successfully.
