The Emergency Department and Women’s Wellness Team from the Young District Hospital have received the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MHLD)’s Wellness Award as part of the district 2021 Excellence Awards.
The Wellness Award is presented in recognition of an individual or team who seizes every opportunity to work in partnership with consumers to build and maintain wellness.
Young Hospital’s Women’s Wellness team is a multidisciplinary clinical team who collaborate with external agencies to develop and implement strategies to prepare and empower women to make informed decisions throughout their journey to pregnancy.
The team provided tools, education and support to prepare women for a healthy pregnancy with a focus on the importance of health and wellbeing when planning a pregnancy, to optimise the health of the mother and baby, with strong links to the First 1000 Days of Life program.
The team held a Women’s Wellness Day to raise awareness to engage with local women.
The day was considered a success, with future plans to expand content to include father, mental health and drug and alcohol.
The Young Emergency Department (ED)’s multidisciplinary team has been recognised with the Quality and Safety Award.
The use of collaborative, consumer centered approach to reduce waiting times for mental health patients through timely clinical assessment, treatment and organisation of transport was highlighted.
The project involved consultation and engagement of people with lived experience of mental health and engagement and education of staff in adopting new practices in ED. The successful outcomes for patience are evident in sustained reduced waiting times for patients presenting to ED with mental illness.
