The second annual Hark, Hallelujah concert was held over the weekend at St John’s Anglican Church in Young to a packed crowd.

The audience were treated to a variety of music from movie themes to Christmas carols.

The Young Town Band opened the concert with a selection of music that was well received by the crowd. Sisters Julie O’Connor from Harden and Penny Simpson from Cowra sang ‘The Holy City’.

The concert was hosted by the Hilltops Choir, with thirty two singers under the musical direction of Rodney Clancy, accompanied by Stewart Bruce. The Choir sang four songs from their repertoire, with their rendition of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ particularly enjoyed.

The Boorowa M and D Choir were led by Peter Roberts and accompanied by Mary Corcoran. They performed three songs, including ‘Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring’.

Sing Australia Young, led by Margaret Fathers and accompanied by newly-appointed pianist Yvonne Tredinnick, performed songs with a strong Australian Christmas theme and encouraged audience participation.

Cowra Vocal Ensemble led by Maree McKay and accompanied by CD backing, performed five Christmas songs, including ‘An African Celebration’, which was popular with the audience.

Visiting choirs, instrumentalists, soloists, accompanists and St John’s Anglican Church are all thanked for their efforts in making the concert a success.

The Hilltops Choir is a non-auditioned community choir and is always looking for new members. The Choir meets on Monday evenings between 7.30pm and 9.30pm at the Young Uniting Church Hall. For enquiries, please contact Secretary Tracey Clark on 0418 672 622.
