The Harden Picnic Races have been cancelled for the second year in a row. This year’s meet was to be held on October 23, 2021.

It was to be the 40th event after the races were cancelled in 2020. Race committee president Nathan Schofield said it was a unanimous decision to put off the event.

“We left it until as late as we could to make a decision. There is about a month’s worth of preparation work required to put on the races. We didn’t want to go ahead with everything and do all the work preparing and then to have to cancel a week out,” he said.

“It is devastating. The event is something Hilltops communities look forward to.”

Punters from as far as Queensland, Sydney, Bowral and Canberra come to the races, which would have been impossible this year.

“It is a decision with safety in mind and is the best decision for our community,” Mr Schofield said.

The committee is looking forward to hosting an open day in March or April at the race club.

They wish to thank the meet’s sponsors who continually support year after year.
