The Harden Red Devils have scooped this year’s first division Oilsplus South West Cup, and are minor premiers after leading the competition for several rounds.

Their 46 to 5 win over the Grenfell Panthers last Saturday was a cherry on top, said Devils captain Jack Alcorn.

“It’s great to represent the town. It’s also great to pull it off in the COVID society we’re living in,” Alcorn said.

He said the score didn’t reflect the actual experience on the field.

“Grenfell are a good side and put us to the test,” he said.

“They’re a young side, and I look forward to seeing them grow over the years. I look forward to the challenge of it.”

This weekend is a hometown final against the Cootamundra Tri Colours.

Alcorn said it’s always good to play at home with the advantage of local support.

“They’re a testing team,” he said.

“We won’t be going into it with high heads. We’re prepared for what they’ll throw at us.”

This weekend’s finals are a Hilltops affair with the Boorowa Goldies hosting Young Yabbies in the third and fourth play off.

Alcorn said the Yabbies have been a strong side during the competition and the Goldies have been improving along the way also. He feels the Goldies are the underdogs of the finals.

“We’re looking forward to seeing who makes it to the grand final,” he said.

The Yabbies beat the Temora Tuskers 54 to 10 last weekend in their round 14 match.

The Boorowa and Cootamundra game was cancelled due to a positive COVID-19 case in Cootamundra. Points were split.
