The Harden branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) has received a grant of $50,000 from the NSW Government’s Club Grants Fund. The grant will be used for renovations to the CWA building in Neill Street, which has been occupied by the CWA since 1951.

Harden CWA President Margaret Thornhill said the announcement came as a very pleasant surprise.

“I cannot express what a difference this funding will make to the members of the Harden CWA,” Mrs Thornhill said. “Our priorities are a new kitchen and bathroom that cater for people with disabilities. Having those amenities will allow us to hold functions that everyone can attend in comfort.”

“I would like to thank Steph Cooke on behalf of all the Harden CWA members, we are all so grateful for her help and support. We will definitely be inviting her back to enjoy some afternoon tea and see the finished renovations!”

Ms Cooke said it was a pleasure to help the CWA members continue their important work in the Harden community.

“I am so excited to announce funding for this wonderful group of women. Since its inception in 1945 this branch of the CWA has been an integral part of Harden’s history and development,” Ms Cooke said

“I visited this group in December to attend their Christmas celebrations and was blown away by how much these ladies love the CWA and everything it stands for. We went on a tour of the facility and I was able to see it was in need of some work.”

“The CWA is not just about cakes and craft; they have a strong record of advocacy for rural, remote and regional communities before State and Federal Government. They are a truly amazing and, at times, formidable group.”
