Local grassroots sporting organisations are set to receive support from the NSW Government’s $27.3 million Community Sport Recovery Package.
The package includes one-off grants of $1000 for 12,500 local sports clubs and organisations across the state. The package is on top of $35 million in grants programs for 2020/2021 and $127 million in the Active Kids program in 2020/2021.
Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman said this funding will provide a shot in the arm for local sporting organisations that had been doing it tough in COVID-19.
“Sport is part of the fabric of our region, providing local participants and volunteers a sense of identity and connection to community,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
“The postponement and cancellation of local competitions and activities has placed a significant financial and emotional strain on the organisations and individuals involved. The Community Sport Recovery Package will help local clubs and associations survive the crisis and come back stronger than ever, so that the thousands of residents involved in sport can get back to the activities they love.”
Acting Minister for Sport Geoff Lee said the recovery package was not just about helping sports survive but also stimulating the local economy. “The fast-tracked grants will help support community sport organisations return to activities and contribute to the economies of local communities across NSW.”
Full training, contact activities and community sport competitions are set to return on the 1st of July, following a relaxing of restrictions in line with health guidelines.
