With October being breast cancer awareness month, Laura Cartwright is hosting an event to remember.
Dare To Bare will be a ladies only event on Saturday, October 30.
Wanting all aspects to be “edgy” and “cool” so it’s more of a fun, supportive day of strong cancer survivors, those on their journey, there is another element to the awareness.
“I decided that the event alone wasn’t enough, that we needed to do something bigger and braver than last year,” Laura said.
Another unique angle she introduced was herself and 14 other ladies posing topless in a ‘Dare To Bare’ photoshoot.
“I reached out via social media who would be interested in doing a topless yet tasteful photoshoot in my home on that Saturday, in an intimate, organic styled setting,” she said.
“Honestly, the amount of hands shown was incredible but I decided to pull the pin at 15 women to keep it personal and to be able to give much credit to the girls taking part in the challenge, myself included.”
Each woman is being sponsored, with a set fundraising target to raise before they bare as part of the event.
Around $17,000 has been raised by the ladies already.
Laura says 100% of the funds will stay in the area, as all money raised will be donated to CANAssist.
“As you can imagine this is a far cry from Shave Your Head For A Cure and although I drew inspiration from that I just knew this would create a lot more interest, awareness conversations, excitement and I dare say the odd jaw on the floor moment,” she said.
“The reason behind the event isn’t based on what I do or don’t know about cancer.
I’m not sure if it’s something we will ever cure but I believe what myself and the girls are doing with ‘Dare To Bare’ is helping to ease the financial strain and burden to someone’s life that is going through it.”
