Beginners Tai Chi classes are now offered in Young.
Volunteer Val Weir recently attended training through the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) and Dr Paul Lam’s Tai Chi for Health Institute.
She enjoys the form of exercise, and hopes the wider public will embrace it in her beginner classes.
“Tai Chi is proven to improve muscular strength, flexibility, fitness, balance and also immunity. Additionally, while not fully documented, Tai Chi empowers you to develop serenity, inner strength and power and can lead you to feel happier and more fulfilled,” Ms Weir said.
“Everyone is welcome to come and join in.”
The program aims to improve access to safe physical activity, especially for older adults.
“We know the importance of regular physical activity to maintain good health and this is a great chance for community members to take part in a low cost activity locally,” said MLHD Health Promotion Officer, Barb Manwaring.
The classes are on Tuesday morning from 9am at Southern Cross Cinema Gym and Dance studio, located at the rear of the cinema.
Participants are asked to contribute a gold coin per session to assist with program running costs.
