Young Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) has been voted a 2020 Community Choices Champion in Essential Energy’s Community Choices program.
The Young Centre was the only group from the Hilltops region, which was part of Zone 8 in the program. Essential Energy’s network area was divided into 20 zones, with funding distributed between the first six eligible groups in each zone. The winners were determined by the number of eligible votes received for each group.
Voting by the public closed in mid June, with winners announced in early July.
Young RDA was voted in at fourth in Zone 8, delivering a funding win of $1000. The funding is being used to contribute to the feed bill of the Centre’s horses.
“Due to COVID 19, we have been unable to run our normal riding program during school terms. Social distancing is not possible with our students mounting and dismounting horses, however the horses still have to be fed, shod and their general well-being needs to be maintained,” said the Centre’s Publicity Officer.
“Also, due to the virus we have been unable to do our normal fundraising which we do each year to make money to buy hay. RDA is extremely grateful to Essential Energy for their support of our community.”
