The Young Golf Club was the place to be on Sunday, 28 October, with the “Aid for the Farmers Drought Relief Concert”.
Organisers Louise Saint John and Vicki Walsh were overwhelmed with the support received. Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke was the official guest and she praised all involved for coming together to help those in need.
The day was successful in raising $729, which has been handed on to Young Services Club who will pass it on to the Hay Mate fund.
Performers who donated their time for the day included both Louise and Vicki, as well as Kerry Shaw, Rebbecca Hogan (Foster) and her daughter Matilda Foster, Alex Winnell, Brian Nolan, Country Keys and Strings, Kerry Holm, Lugh Damen (who played piano with beautifully handcrafted wooden surround), and bush poets Jim Lamb and his grand-daughter Emily Lamb. The singers were backed by musicians Ray Watts on Bass Guitar, Dave Moorby on Lead Guitar, and Dallas Munck on drums. The three musicians also had a featured spot playing some instrumental tunes including Apache, which was made famous by The Shadows. Sound equipment for the day was provided and operated by Alex Winnell who was assisted by Ron Owen.
Local businesses Donges Supa IGA, Blooms the Chemist, M & M’s Music Studio, Hamblins Amcal Pharmacy, Big W, Full Moon Magic, The Reject Shop, The Base Warehouse, Poppa’s Fudge Factory and the Young Workwear Centre all donated gifts to be raffled, and Woolworths donated the lucky door prizes.
The ladies would like to thank all those involved, including the Young Cadet Unit for catering, Young Services Club / Young Golf Club, Belinda Allen, Greg Nolan, Jannelle Perceval, Jessica Perceval, and Denis Gibson, the Young Witness, the Hilltops Phoenix, 2LF and 2YYY for their help and support beforehand, and on the day.
