The Christmas Shopping Spree was declared a huge success with over two thousand entries going into the draw.
The initiative was a joint collaboration between the business chambers of the Hilltops region, encouraging residents to spend locally over a four week period.
Chair of HRDC Richard Fleming said the campaign was a great initiative for the twin towns resulting in over $135,000 of economic return. “Initiatives like this can have a substantial effect on local business, especially around this time of year when online retailing is becoming more luring and convenient for shoppers. We can’t ignore the fact that this initiative has reiterated that residents support a buy local campaign and HRDC will be working in conjunction with the neighbouring chambers to continue the success of this competition on a permanent basis. None of this would have been achieved without the support of our local retailers and have to thank them for their continued support,” Mr. Fleming said.
Santa announced the winner as local student Grace Kemp. “This was a great initiative, however, like any competition, when you enter you never think you will win. When I received the call on Sunday, I didn’t really know what to say. I haven’t had time to think about where and what I will buy, but I know there will be a few Christmas presents and a nice dinner out,” said Grace.
Grace won a $1400 prize which can be used to purchase goods or services at any of the participating stores across the twin towns.
