Murrumburrah-Harden Flexible Care Services has received a funding boost to deliver improved services to its clients as a result of a Federal Government Stronger Communities Programme grant.

Member for Riverina, Michael McCormack said the not-for-profit organisation would receive $13,500 to help refurbish its new premises, the former regional Rural Fire Service headquarters, in the Trinity Centre.

It provides services to frail-aged, vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the community.

The organisation’s board chair, Stewart Bruce said their core aim is to assist residents live comfortably and independently in their own homes, where appropriate, for as long as possible.

“There are lots of costs associated with moving a business into a new location and the grant will provide funds to assist with a complete paint job internally, a new front door to welcome clients and members of the public, curtains and installation of communication links (phone, internet and computer networking), together with various hardware items for the kitchen, training room and office spaces,” Mr Bruce said.

“As well as our staff and volunteers having a well-resourced, pleasant and professionally presented workplace, our clients and others will be well catered for when they visit the premises.”

The organisation offers Meals on Wheels, personal home care, loan of mobility equipment, social outings, respite for carers, yard maintenance and more. Whilst there are a small number of trained staff, much of the work is done by a fantastic team of local volunteers.

The Stronger Communities Programme has delivered nearly $900,000 to not-for-profit organisations in the Riverina and Central West through the first six rounds of funding.
