2021-23 NSW Heritage Grants Now Open

Phoenix research shows that Hilltops residents are passionate about our rich Indigenous history and the history of European and Chinese settlement in the region. The wonderful museums in Harden Murrumburrah, Young, and Boorowa are representative of this interest, not to forget the Young and District Family History Group, which plays a vital role in assisting people to track down their ancestors and build a sense of kinship.

Last week, the Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman, announced applications are open for the 2021-23 NSW Heritage Grants program, which has $5 million available to support heritage projects across NSW.

Mrs Tuckerman said funding is available for projects that identify, conserve and celebrate our rich heritage, and urged individuals and community groups to apply for the funds to undertake projects that deliver these heritage outcomes. “Local Aboriginal Land Councils, heritage owners and custodians, and community are just some of the groups that benefit from this program,” Mrs Tuckerman said. “If you need extra funding to prepare heritage management documents, to conserve heritage or want to celebrate and promote heritage, then I’d strongly encourage you to apply.”

The NSW Heritage Grants program has been delivering outstanding heritage outcomes across the state for more than 40 years. The 2019-21 grant round saw $5.8 million awarded to 241 projects across three broad funding categories: Aboriginal Cultural Heritage, Caring for State Heritage and Community Heritage. Hilltops was successful in securing two Community Heritage Grants:

  • A Local Government Small Heritage Grant for $12,000; and
  • A Local Government Heritage Advisor Services Grant for $14,000.

It would be good to see stronger Hilltops representation in the list of 2021-23 Grants recipients.

Applications for this competitive funding round are open until 5pm Monday, 8 February 2021. Applicants must read the program guidelines to ensure they and the proposed project are eligible.
