Boorowa Gun Club’s June competition threatened to be a washout with a wet week preceding the shoot and the Saturday morning overcast with showers.
Perhaps it is the nature of the sport that we are forever optimistic with both our prospects on the day and our hopes for dry weather. So it was that 23 optimists turned up to have a shot! The scheduled 11am start came and went. A heavy shower delayed the start, but this turned out to be the only rain delay of the day.
The first event was the 25 Target Handicap. The overcast weather made for some poor light conditions which was reflected in the scores. Two shooters tied on 23. Tony Barton and Jenny Twarloh fought it out in the shoot off with Tony taking first and Jenny coming second. Five shooters had tied on 22 so a five way shoot off ensued with Amy Smith edging out the other four to take third place honours.
The second event of the day was the 25 Target Point Score cash divide. Anthony Gray won AA grade with 73/75. Adam Boswell won A grade with 69/75. B grade was won by Alannah Jarvis with 74/75 and C grade was won by Michelle Lees with 59/75.
The third event of the day was the 15 Pair Double Rise, sponsored by J & A Geotech Testing. The overall winner with 29/30 was Anthony Gray. First in AA was Theo Lionatos on 25/30 with Amy Smith coming second on 24/30. A grade was won by Tony Barton with a 27/30. Second in A grade was Justin Smith with a 26/30. Giulio Serafin won B grade with a 27/30 and Ian Crisp came second with 21/30. C grade was won by Adam Boswell on 24/30 with Alannah Jarvis coming second with a 21/30.
The fourth event of the day was the 30 Pair Deuville Doubles sponsored by Ian Crisp. The winning team with a perfect score of 30/30 was David Jarvis & Alannah Jarvis. In second place was Team Smiff, Amy Smith and Justin Smith with a 29/30. Two shooters were tied for the overall High Gun, these being Anthony Gray and Tony Barton who had to shoot off to decide the winner. Anthony rounded out a very successful day to take the Open High Gun with 122/130. Another shooter who had a very successful day was Alannah Jarvis taking the Ladies High Gun with 117/130. The Veterans High Gun was won by Giulio Serafin with 115/130.
A big thanks to everyone for braving the weather and as always a big thanks to our volunteers and committee who keep the whole show running, without you we would not have a club so thank you.
