Boorowa Gun Club attracted 39 local and interstate shooters to their monthly competition on Saturday 23 March. As this shoot preceded the National Championships in Roma Queensland, all the big guns were in attendance honing their skills prior to the major event for the year. The slightly overcast but calm conditions meant some excellent scores were posted.

The first event of the day, the 25 target handicap event was won by Rod Haug from Canberra after a three way shoot off with Sharon Shorrock and Glenn Barton , all three having shot a 25/25.

The second event of the day, the 50 target point score had Glenn Barton resort to his second barrel once only resulting in a score of 149/150 to take out the overall win. AA was won by Grady Evans after a shoot off with Wendy Barton who came second. A grade was won by Eddie Cummings with a 147/150, second place went to Tony Gray from Victoria on 144/150. B grade was won by Jack O’Dowd with a 145/150, in second place was Edward Smith with 140/150. C grade was won by Adam Reid on 139/150 just squeezing out Dempsey Farrell Gray on 138/150.

The third event was the 50 target Double Barrel, which had no less than 9 possibles (50/50). With a class field the shoot off was always going to be lengthy, and a change to point score after 50 targets enabled a result to be had without a very late night. The overall winner of the Double Barrel Event was Glenn Barton with a 50/50 in the event and a shoot off score of 89/89. The runner up in the shoot off and 1st in AA was Grady Evans. Second place in AA went to Colin O’Leary from Cowra.

A grade honours went to Rod Haug, with Tony Gray coming second after a shoot off. B grade was won by Jack O’Dowd after a shoot off with Edward Smith who claimed second. C grade was won by Dempsey Farrell Gray with a 49/50. Adam Reid was hot on his heels with a 48/50. Both of these shooters had a memorable day with Adam progressing to B grade and Dempsey earning his 50 target break badge.

The overall High Gun was won by Glenn Barton. The Ladies High Gun was won by Wendy Barton. The Junior High Gun winner was Darcy Maloney and the veterans High Gun was won by Giulio Serafin.

Boorowa Gun Club’s next shoot will be held on Saturday 27 April. It is a major day night shoot starting at 11.00am. The day event begins with a 25 target handicap, followed by the 75 target George Campbell Memorial. The night events start at approximately 6.00pm and consists of the NSW State Night Double Rise and the Commonwealth Night Deauville Doubles Championships.
