In the lead up to the Maimuru Public School Centenary in 2021, Vicki Burstal and Meredith Timmins put together a book covering the past ten decades of the school and surrounding district. This 224-page publication is packed with amazing photographs, historical records, personal recollections, anecdotes and information.
Vicki and Meredith thanked the Hilltops Council for their financial assistance, provided through a grant, which has helped with the cost of printing and costs associ- ated with the preparations and planning for the Centenary Celebration Day. They also thanked Mark O’Malley and his team from O’Reilly’s Printing Services in Young for the quality of the printing and for quickly completing the order so that some books were able to be distributed before Christmas. In addition, many groups and asso- ciations provided valuable assistance and in particular the Young and District Family History Group.
At this stage the Centenary Committee is hoping that the celebration will be able to go ahead on Saturday 3rd April, Easter Saturday, 2021 in the grounds of Maimuru School with an appropriate COVID safety plan.
The Committee is busy organising a great day for catching up with friends, eating delicious food, looking at displays of photographs and memorabilia and enjoying performances, speeches and the cutting of the cake. There will be copies of the book for sale on the day as well as Centenary mugs and t-shirts. Further information will be made available as it comes to hand.
If anyone is interested in purchasing a copy of the book to enjoy now, you can make contact via the Maimuru Facebook Page or by phoning Vicki on 02 6383 3234.
