On Saturday the 22nd of February, Bridie Minehan in Year 12 at Hennessey Catholic College was announced the Lions Club of Young Youth of the Year.

The presentation took place at the S and C Club, where Bridie’s prepared speech topic was ‘an artistic impression'.

Shannon O’Brien, also in Year 12 at Hennessey Catholic College and the only other competitor this year, won the public speaking award. Shannon’s prepared speech topic was ‘you are exactly like other girls’.

The Lions Club Youth of the Year is a prestigious award where participants are required to undergo an interview by a panel of judges, complete impromptu speeches as well as a prepared speech.

The judges for this year’s contest were Gayle Steinhardt, Gary Quinn and James McLeod (from Cootamundra). Gayle said she was very impressed with the calibre of both girls.

The Lions Club of Young wishes Bridie all the very best as she contests the Zone competition at Grenfell on Sunday the 15th of March.
